I need some help with installing CPU heatsink and fan?
I have installed an Asrock 4core vsta motherboard. I need to install the processor.
I am thinking of buying Intel core 2 quad Q6600 processor this comes with heatsink and fan.
It is compatible with the motherboard. I just want to know of how you install the heatsink and fan. I know how to install the processor. I don't want to break anything.
Any guidance at all with be appreciated.
Check your motherboard spec.. It should tell you what type of processor it can handle. Normally, there is a picture diagram that came along with the package and most of the heatsink and fan are snap on, so it shouldn't be that hard to install them.

Believe it or not, all you really need is a good screwdriver set. Philips head and flat head, of course. For security reasons, never build a computer while it is set into the wall. Common sense here people.
Build It!
Process of building a PC consists of several important phases. One of the most important thing is to install motherboard in the system case. But when the motherboard is the case, it is rather difficult to access it to install components on the board. For this reason, most PC assemblers must first create the motherboard with critical components before putting the motherboard into the case. In this section we will do exactly that. We start by installing the CPU into the motherboard, then attaches the fan, and finally, insert the RAM.
Placing the CPU into its socket is easy, and we will do it in three steps. First we will prepare motherboard to accept the CPU. Then we must open and examine CPU Socket. Finally, we will add CPU into the motherboard and secure it in place.
Before you touch by the CPU chip, touch your hands to a grounded piece of metal. Press the CPU chip only at the edges to protect it from static electricity!
Keep the CPU only at the edges. Because of the pin configuration, the CPU will only insert in the right direction. Continue to push the latch down. When it gets to close (down) position, gently pull the lever slightly away from the shelf to clear the chip, which locks into place. So give the natural springiness of the handle to move the arm back toward the socket, so it is held in place by the notch.
You now have CPU properly inserted into the socket.
Control Installation and connection of the fan
The installation instructions say you should look seats in the heatsink to be sure that it rests properly on the door. In practice it is difficult if not impossible to do so. However, if you have a good light handy, you can look between the heatsink and CPU, if you wish. (Incidentally, a Mini-Mag AA flashlight is a good tool to get your hand here.)
Lastly, the mainboard manual and see how the three-pin CPU connection fanpower legs. They are usually clearly marked. Then connect the heatsink fan Do not forget to connect the heatsink / CPU fan! Do this immediately after the heatsink is installed! If the heatsink fan is not connected, it will not work, and your CPU to overheat. When your system is fully assembled, it is a good idea to leave the side of the story out and explore all the fans who must ensure that they are functioning properly.
Preparing to install the RAM
RAM is very sensitive to static electricity. Before collecting a RAM chip, touch both hands to a metal piece to draw static electricity away from your hands. You can also try to wear a grounding wrist strap when you install memory. Try to touch the RAM only on two sides and the top near the sides. These pages are great for picking it up, but you have to push it into its socket from the top. Try not to touch the chip itself or the metal contacts. And let the RAM in the original packaging until you are ready to install it.
Not touching the metal head of the memory is also important because oils that build up on your hands can damage leads.
Investigate RAM sockets and RAM chips, you will see that the RAM can only be inserted one way because there is a small cut out separating the metal contacts (also called leads) on the RAM chip at two sides. Each page has a different number of metal contacts, which makes it impossible to locate the RAM chip wrong. Be sure the notch in the RAM chip is aligned with the protruding part of the RAM socket.

In short, your ¾ of the way there! Now unscrew the motherboard to the case. Connect the power supply to the motherboard, and you're in business. Make sure that all connections are made as connections to the hard drive and CD burner. Now you're catching on.
Now is the test of time. Insert the Windows disc in the CD drive and plug it in. If all went well, Windows will carry you through the rest.
Congratulations! You've just built your own computer!
