Can Windows 7 dominate the Snow Leopard and Chrome OS?
After the release of source code for Google Chrome operating system developers, software giant, Microsoft's Windows 7 and Apple's Snow Leopard, leader of the market for operating systems that had been reasons to respond to growing competition from the search giant. But Google will launch the stable release in the second half of 2010 for netbooks.
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be target netbooks. whereas, Windows 7 handle the designers' requirements and Apple's Snow Leopard may have an advantage over other operating systems to handle of daily routine works.
But the question is who would win the ultimate war in the battle of U.S. dominance? Windows 7 or Snow Leopard or Google Chrome OS?
User Interface
Microsoft Windows 7 comes with a refurbished Windows shell with a new process line updated panel interface, slideshows for open windows, start menu and window management enhancements and an advanced font management.
The Snow Leopard users may see a subfolder through stacks without restarting the Finder, Dock icons will have a new look with semi-transparent charcoal background, higher resolution iChat and display windows in a single program via Exposé by left click and hold its icon in the Dock. But various analysts said that the Mac OS offers the best overall user experience that at the moment.
In the upcoming Google Chrome OS's UI, combining simple tab strip apps and standard Web pages to save space on the screen. Various secondary tasks such as instant messaging and music players can be operated using "panels." It may also feature split screen to display two pieces of content side-by-side. The new software will also use HTML 5's offline modes, background processing and product reviews.
System Improvements
Windows Seven supports DirectX 11 version, multi-touch feature for Tablet PCs have WWAN and improved security features. Also, the software features the Office Open XML and ODF support in WordPad, Windows Media Player 12 and Windows XP mode.
But Snow Leopard features 64-bit support with improved performance through multiple processor cores and GPUs. It also supports the new version of Quicktime, out-of-the-box support for Microsoft Exchange and automatic updates for printer drivers.
The new Google Chrome OS-based machines are essential for cloud computing and will be connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and will play only web-based applications like Google Docs, which company approves. Moreover, all such apps stored in the cloud not in users' netbook. Therefore, you do not require much storage space on your PC.
Boot time
Microsoft Windows 7 comes with faster boot time compared to Vista, and Apple's Snow Leopard also requires quick boot time by up to 80% faster, which saves valuable time by users. But in the early build of Google Chrome OS, it took as little as seven seconds to reach a login screen, and then reached almost immediately into the browser.
Cost Factor
The Snow Leopard single user license will be available for around $ 29, while Windows 7 is available within a price range of $ 120 to $ 320th But Google Chrome OS is an open source software available for free.
Discussion
According to Web metrics company Net Applications, Microsoft Windows 7's market share in the first three weeks was more than what Vista had achieved in five months. Now, seven passed the Windows market share of 5% milestone, which is more than the total market share for all versions of Apple's Mac OS X.
Recently, Microsoft announced that it will close support for Windows XP SP2, suggesting that the company wants to convert XP users to the new Win7 buyers. Various analysts predict that there is a huge tail of XP on the market and Windows 7 is a great chance for all the people who declined to move to Vista. Therefore, the recent move from software giant probably toughened the competition for new entrants.
