i have a question about macs! =]?
is it true that because leopard is not as demanding on ram. 2 gigs of ram on a mac equals 4 gigs of ram on a pc? because ive heard that from many people

i was looking at apple.com
and the cheapest mac there is 1700 2.53ghz processor
but at frys
they have a macbook pro 15.4 inc with a 2.4 ghz processor ? how come they have a different model then apple does?
and does frys accept the 50 dollar student discount?
and is 2.4 a hugee! noticable difference from a 2.53?
ive also been told that GHZ isnt really a huge factor on macs because they are different from pc's
I take it that you are in the United States. If you aren't, than the websites might be different.
Yes, Leopard is less demanding on RAM and hard drive space than Vista and even XP. The new version (Snow Leopard) coming out in September is supposed to be even more efficient. I wouldn't go so far as to compare 2 GB on a Mac to 4 GB on a PC, but they do run more smoothly.
The Apple website (once again, assuming you are looking at the US site) should have a cheaper computer than that. The white Macbook starts at $999, while the 13" MacBook Pro starts at $1199. I believe that the white Macbook comes with a $50 education discount, while the 13" Pro comes with a $100 discount.
Apple updated their laptop line a few weeks ago, so many authorized resellers (like Fry's) haven't updated their stock. They still have the "old" model, but it's still a great computer.
In regards to the processing speed, no, .13 is not a noticeable difference. You should look for at least a 2.0 GHz processor, and then supplement that with more RAM.
