2.4 or 2.66 Macbook Pro.?
I want a macbook pro but the 2.4 with 2gb of RAM is £1369 and the 2.66 with 4gm of RAM is £1712. Is the mainboard a different type in the 2.66 as I read it has double the cache of the 2.4 and on the apple configurator I can't upgrade the 2.4 macbook pro to 2.66? If it has an inferior base then I'd rather have 2.66 otherwise I would love to save the cash as I would just buy 4gb of crucial memory for £40 instead of apple's £80. I aint bothered about the bigger hard drive either.
If, however, the 2.66 is much faster and the whole factor of the mainboard is better and more future proof then I prefer that.
I see that in the future I may want to upgrade just the CPU, I'm worried I'm stuck at 2.4 with the 2.4 macbook pro as if it has the same mainboard as the macbook and then the 2.66 shares the same as the 17". Is this the case or are all the macbook pro mainboards the same?
I really think that u should go for the 2.4. Common....its only a difference 200 Mhz which to tell u frankly doesn't make much of a difference. Ditto for the cache. U could still however consider upgrading the ram to 4 if u are a gamer, image editor or in the animation industry. If not 2 Gb ram is more than enough, at least for now. As for being future proof, let me tell u my friend, NOTHING is future proof!!!

MacBook Pro Review
First impression
On the previous MacBook Benefits have been very good. The delivered consistent quality and professional and excellent features. Consideration of the next generation MacBook Pro is a sort of agreement.
A first glimpse of the newest models do not show anything new. It is not disappointing boxes robust and intelligent design is exactly what you want from a laptop quality. Keyboard is clearer - the result some minor changes - but otherwise, everything looks as impressive as it always has.
This could indicate all the internal changes is smaller. Not so. When you start the MacBook Pro and start putting each model tested, it becomes very clear you are working with machines that excel expectations.
Technology
Initially, processors Intel Penryn 45-nanometer. Is significantly faster than the 65-nanometer Merom installed in the elderly MacBook Pro, and easily beating Merom in all benchmark tests.
Standard processors for both 15-inch MacBook Pro is 2.4 GHz and 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. The 17-inch 2.5GHz. Allied to these improved HDD 200 GB for 15-inch 2.4 GHz and 250 GB for 15-inch and 17 inch at 2.5 GHz.
Particular interest to users of multimedia is a doubling of video memory on all three MacBook Pro. The 15-inch to 2.4 GHz with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256 MB and 15 inches at 2.5 GHz and 17-inch 2.5 GHz have the same GPU, but with 512 MB.
2GB RAM support technology across the border. The overall results are phones that are easy to handle with advanced graphics and sound programs.
Hardware
Each of the three MacBook Pro comes with standard hardware, such as:
- Slot loading 8x double-layer SuperDrive
- iSight camera
- AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth ® wireless connections
- Stereo speakers
- FireWire 400 and 800 ports
- USB 2.0 ports (two 15-inch models, three 17 ")
- DVI
- Audio
- Gigabit Ethernet port
- ExpressCard/34
There are also low hardware "extras" to help MacBook Pro stand out from the crowd. These include a large lithium-polymer battery, an ambient light sensor, which indicates keyboard in dark conditions, and energy-saving LED backlight.
These displays are mercury-free and anti-glare, and a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels for the 15 inch model and 1680 x 1050 pixels at 17 inches. As you both have bright, natural and razor sharp images.
Perhaps best of all extra equipment, however, the new MacBook Pro trackpad. It now has multi-touch features that have proved so popular on the iPhone. By pinching, rotating and sliding fingers on the trackpad you are remarkably quick and positive control over the functions of the MacBook Pro Creative Software.
Multi-touch does not cause a little problem: size trackpad can feel a little less for someone to learn the appropriate gesture. But once you are familiar with multi-touch, it is not difficult to work within the borders of the trackpad.
Software
As with all new Macs, the MacBook Pro comes with the best Operating around, Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard. If you have never used before Leopard, skills will please you. If you already have a Mac user, have you anything you please because MacBook Pro new impulses at a speed of Leopard and the applications that run out.
Among these applications is the latest version of Apple the fastest browser in the world, Safari. It comes with the usual lot of updating software as Apple's Boot Camp, Mail, iChat, iTunes, DVD Player, iPhoto and iLife '08.
Performance
Experienced users can load MacBook Pro applications are preferred in these models and immediately noticed the speed improvements. For example, you can configure Photoshop CS3 in about eight seconds 15-inch 2.5GHz. You can then go to the discovery of Photoshop skis 20 to 25% faster than a 2007 2.6 GHz MacBook Pro.

Options
With a little notebook designed for professional use, it is always worth exploring the possibilities for producers, because some people need extra buffer of speed and power for specific applications.
The configuration options for the MacBook Pro probably will not leave you falling. To give you the extra power, you can ask for a 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo upgrade, either to the processor 2.5 GHz, 15 inches and 17 inches. As for RAM, you can update any of the three MacBook Pro to 4GB.
At 17-inch MacBook Pro, you can upgrade to 300GB hard drive to provide extra space for space applications graphics. In the same way you can ensure perfect clarity in your photos to a screen asking 1920 x 1200 pixels for the same model.
Finally, if you prefer a blank screen instead of the matte anti-glare you can ask when you place your order, as is possible with most Macs.
Worth
With all these improvements packed into the tank, like the previous MacBook Pro, one can anticipate a price increase. If you do it, you're wrong. The new MacBook Pro is definitely better machines, but the price range have not changed. The old MacBook Pro had good values, but the latest incarnations are simply excellent for the price.
